The City’s annual watermain flushing program is progressing, with crews scheduled to start work on Thursday, Oct. 10 in Zones 1 and 2 of the former Sunnyside/Pritchard System, with an isolated, precautionary Water Quality Advisory in effect within this area while the work is underway and continuing until further notice.
Flushing forces high-velocity water through hydrants to remove sediment that has accumulated in the distribution system’s mains over time. During flushing, customers in Zones 1 and 2 of the former Sunnyside/Pritchard System may experience reduced water pressure and/or discoloration when crews are working at a nearby hydrant.
See the Zone 1 and 2 maps to determine if your property is in the service area; and, to learn about what steps customers should take before, during and after flushing, please visit westkelownacity.ca/flushing.
Please visit Interior Health’s Drinking Water Resources For Everyone webpage for Water Quality Advisory information. Please note, during the watermain flushing program, the City is also providing residents with an alternative free source of drinking water at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Bring clean bottles for filling. Please note possible traffic pattern changes and detours due to the Shannon Lake Active Transportation Corridor project.
We appreciate customers’ patience and understanding during this important maintenance.
How will you know if flushing is happening in your area?
- Watermain flushing will occur 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday; the schedule is subject to change due to weather and other factors.
- To help residents know when flushing is happening in their areas, crews will post signs and residents may hear and observe City staff and vehicles working at a nearby hydrant.
- Residents may notice water being safely directed to an adjacent storm sewer or being hauled away in an on-site water truck.
