The City of West Kelowna and West Kelowna Fire Rescue are excited to share that the 27th Annual Holiday Food Drive was a record-breaking year.
Thanks to our community’s remarkable generosity, $6,602.05 in cash and 14,537 pounds of food were donated to the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB). According to the COFB, the cash and food donations are valued at more than $58,600, which will make a significant impact in the months ahead.
"For 27 years our community has been incredibly generous during our annual Food Drive, and this year was no different. We are so grateful to all who opened their wallets and their pantries this holiday season to help neighbours in need," said West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund. "Our community’s holiday spirit shone brightly when our firefighters went door-to-door in early December and continued with residents dropping off donations at our fire halls throughout the holiday season.”
Firefighters went door-to-door Dec. 3 and 4 and continued to collect donations throughout the holiday season at the four fire stations and City Hall.
"On behalf of Council and the City of West Kelowna, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to West Kelowna Fire Rescue and the Greater Westside community for their incredible generosity and unwavering support during the annual holiday food drive. Your kindness and compassion embody the true spirit of our community, and together, we have made a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbours who need it most," said West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom.
These donations will help ensure that the COFB can continue to provide essential support to those facing food insecurity.
"Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone at West Kelowna Fire Rescue, for more than a quarter century of support for the food bank, including their incredible efforts during the annual holiday food drive, and to the wonderful Greater Westside community for their overwhelming support to fill the shelves for those in need. Thank you, all," said Georgia Wiggins, Fund and Corporate Coordinator with the COFB.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this year’s food drive. Firefighters will be back out for the 28th year in December 2025 —stay tuned!
