Council and the public received an update on Rose Valley Water Service Area operations during the July 23, 2024 Regular Meeting and regular updates are also being provided on the City’s website at westkelownacity.ca/waterquality.
Post-treatment, aesthetic discoloration is continuing within the system. For the latest information, please watch staff’s presentation.
Staff have increased monitoring and sampling, and testing results show that standards set out in the Drinking Water Protection Regulation continue to be met. This ongoing testing, sampling and analyses have indicated that the discoloration continues to be aesthetic, appearing as turbidity. The drinking water objectives for chlorine and bacterial quality continue to be maintained, at this time. The City continues to consult with water quality consultants and Interior Health regarding the aesthetic conditions and the safety of the water, and no Water Quality Advisory or Boil Water Notice is required, at this time.
Since, the plant is still in its first year of commissioning, consultations and adjustments are continuing at the plant to resolve system conditions, and these, along with other efforts such as watermain flushing, will help alleviate discoloration over time.
Should residents wish to use an alternative source due to the aesthetic discoloration, the bulk filling station at Asquith Road and Shannon Lake Road remains available. Bring clean bottles for filling. Please note that Shannon Lake Road Active Transportation Corridor is being constructed in the vicinity of the bulk filling station and traffic pattern changes and detours are required to ensure the safety of the public and crews during construction.
