How our estimator works
- BC Assessment values properties in BC and provides assessment figures to the City of West Kelowna. The City does not establish these amounts.
- To see how assessments affect taxes, watch a short video from BC Assessment or visit the BC Assessment website.
- The municipality uses the assessments each year to calculate the tax rates that will cover the needs established in the annual budget for the delivery of programs, services and other strategic priority projects of Council, based on community input, and to provide other supports such as the Grant-in-Aid program for non-profit organizations.
- At the April 5, 2022 meeting, and after public consultation, West Kelowna Council adopted the 2022 Budget and Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw setting the base, average municipal tax increase at 4.0 per cent. This base, average includes a 2.4 per cent increase for additional investments in police services and a 1.0 per cent Infrastructure Levy to fund extensions to the City’s active transportation network, with the remaining 0.6 per cent to cover increased operational costs including inflation.
Where to find more information
Detailed information about your property taxes will be provided with your tax notice, which is mailed to you in late May. Taxes are due July 4, 2022. Ensure you pay your taxes to the City of West Kelowna, and apply for your Home Owner Grant separately through the Province of BC, before the due date to avoid a 10 per cent penalty, which is applied to any amount owing on July 5, 2022.
The penalty is statutory and staff cannot reverse the charge.
If you have questions in the meantime, email taxes@westkelownacity.ca.
Estimate your municipal taxes
The following municipal tax calculator is based on the 2022 Tax Rates Bylaw, which Council adopted at the May 10, 2022 meeting. Amounts that do not appear in this estimator, but that will appear on your property tax notice, include parcel taxes for the Sterile Insect Release and Regional District of Central Okanagan Solid Waste and Recycling Programs and the Westside Transfer Station on Asquith Road. In the event of a discrepancy between this estimator and your Property Tax Notice, the amount on the notice will prevail.
