Bear Awareness

Living in a beautiful City surrounded by forests and mountains also means being surrounded by plenty of wildlife. It is important to keep our wildlife wild and our communities safe. Residents of West Kelowna are reminded to put their garbage bins out on the morning of collection only and to keep garbage securely stored at all other times.

Species such as bears, cougars, snakes and raccoons may be present in our communities and parks. In an effort to get the message across, the City has begun placing temporary signage in neighbourhoods with bear problems. The signage indicates that bears have been active in the area.

If you see wildlife foraging in residential garbage or are concerned that garbage is being put out inappropriately, please contact the Bylaw Enforcement Office at 778-797-8810.
